At the intersection of Merivale and Meadowlands, Colour Me Mine, paint it yourself ceramics is full of either painters working on a variety of projects this evening.
"We offer glass fusion, ceramics and canvas painting," said Amanda Parent, Colour Me Mine employee. "It is totally up to you what you want to do."
"Patrons come in and pick from close to a hundred different ceramic pieces," said Parent.
Laura Green, 19, chose a dinner plate on which she said she hoped to paint the Northern Lights. Green joked it may turn out to be an abstract representation.
Parent advised that Green paint about four layers of each colour for a vibrant display.
Parent said, "We have 60 colours to choose from which adds lots of variety to every project." After adding green and pink to her plate, Green decided to add splashes of purple.
The colours are numbered with samples to allow for easy selection. Greens colours were called things such as; pacific salmon, kiwi and guacamole.
Parent explained that projects can be completed over weeks if desired. Once finished it takes about a week for the projects to be ready with a non-toxic, lead free and food safe glaze.
"I came out tonight to get a break from school and work. Colour me mine seemed to be the perfect fit, the real world can get rough," said Green.
Parent said, Colour Me Mine offers a place to relax, socialize, unwind and get creative.
The plate took about an hour to paint and cost about 30 dollars, for a new edition to Green's kitchen.
